Abbott Elementary’s Lisa Ann Walter on healthy aging: “I have more energy than ever before”

For many women in their 40s and 50s, experiencing the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause is an inevitable reality, no matter how you prepare for it. Symptoms like hot flashes, dry skin, and insomnia are uncomfortable, and the topic isn’t often talked about, so it doesn’t do people any favors.

This was true for actress Lisa Ann Walter. those Abbott Basic and The parent trap star prioritizes healthy habits, and Walter wants more menopausal people to get the information they deserve. That’s why she joined forces with Centrum Menopause Support in their new Hot Conversations campaign.

“We want to really de-stigmatize and normalize the conversation about menopause and set up support in the workplace,” she says. Eating well. “Only a quarter of women report having some form of menopause support in the workplace – I know how that feels.”

In this exclusive interview, we spoke with Walter about menopause and this partnership. Plus, learn more about her favorite snacks to eat on set Abbott And the Philly food she loves and can’t wait to try.

Eating well: What’s one self-care habit you’ve started that you wish you’d started earlier?

Walter: At the age of 18, I started selling cosmetics in a fancy department store, and I learned a lot about the ingredients you need to keep your skin looking good. I’m very lucky, now I get a lot of compliments from my makeup artists, saying, “You have great skin.” But I wish I had taken care of my body skin. The skin on my body is dry and almost, I don’t want to say scaly because it looks awful, but it’s not good. The women I work with Abbott, I always look at their skin and ask, “What are you using?” And they told me they put lotion in the shower so it keeps the moisture in – that’s genius. It never occurred to me. I wish I had done it sooner.

Eating well: Do you have any meals or snacks that you swear by to give you fuel?

Walter: I’m sitting in a makeup chair at 4:30 in the morning, and we don’t eat lunch until the staff does their morning routine. So I work for about eight hours before I break for a meal. I start my day with oatmeal or sometimes it’s Greek yogurt and berries. Egg whites are also amazing to me. It’s the perfect snack because it’s protein and really fuels me. I love the other thing the guys on our set make: I love almond butter, and if you try to eat it with an apple, it gets messy, so they’ll take a round apple slice. Add some almond butter mixed with whole rolled oats. It really helps fill me up until lunch time.

Eating well: What is a common misconception about menopause?

Walter: It’s different for everyone. When you reach menopause, you hear, “Oh, you’re in menopause. You are dry, you are done, you are out of energy, you have no energy, you have no hope, you are not like a fresh young man. ” And all I have to say is me and Sheryl Lee look at Ralph. With the success and work I’m doing now, it’s not just my job, it’s not just when I’m lucky enough to have a great partner like Centrum. At this stage in my life I have more energy, more drive, more energy than ever before. I think it’s the idea that women become useless after they get older.

Eating well: Why partner with Centrum?

Walter: Centrum is a brand that I always trusted because it was my grandmother’s favorite. Every time I go to Costco, I have to pick up Nana’s Centrum Silver package. It was her medicine, and she was the most well-read person I know about medicine and health, and I believed she knew this brand was trustworthy and reliable. I looked at the ingredients on the bottle of Centrum Menopause Support and I said, “Oh, it’s not just the clinical stuff, but the herbal stuff I’ve read, it’s in the formulation itself.” So I got into that, especially their approach to make it easier for women to get a job. It lasts for a different length of time for each woman. What people don’t understand is that my symptoms are not your symptoms.

Eating well: What do you want to try next time you’re in Philly?

Walter: That’s all. This year, I asked people to send me local food recommendations other than cheesesteak: “Where should I go?” There was a huge fight on my Instagram between Rita and John over water ice in South Philly. Someone also told me about a pancake. Like a calzone, but it’s fried. The names are great for me; Don’t threaten me in good time!
